More than a thousand Mediterranean trees are housed in the cathedral-likeĀ galleries of the Orangery. Built by the Kingās architect to impressĀ courtiers, the tree-lined space became a theatrical setting to entertain theĀ Court. Inside, the gardeners would build bonfires to keep the trees warmĀ so when the Sun King visited, the heady scent of firewood blended withĀ his beloved orange blossoms would emit a generous golden aura.

A decidedly regal and refined scent made with the most noble,Ā high quality naturals.

Heart notes: Orange blossom, Jasmine absolute, Rosewater, Clove buds, Pomegranate, Honey
Base notes: White Cedar wood,Ā Florentine orris, Vetiver, Musk accord,Ā āOiselet de Chypreā accord ( a 17th century resinous amber accord based on labdanum)

Louis XIV was dubbed the āsweetest smelling monarchā. To satisfy his love of orange blossom he imported thousands of orange trees and had his architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart expand the largest ever Orangery in Europe. During his reign, it was fashionable among nobles, to payĀ their court, to offer their own citrus and fruit trees to complement the Kingās collection.
Orange trees from Portugal, Spain or Italy, lemon trees, oleanders, palm trees and even pomegranate trees, have been protected for over 200 years within its monumental galleries. The central gallery is over 150 meters long and its vault culminates at 13 meters high. Two return galleries end under the monumental staircases of the Cent-Marches which play the role of buttresses to the whole. It was built under the āItalian modelā, that is, in stone, with walls 4 to 5 meters thick, double glazing of the bays and a Southern exposure to maintain warmer temperatures even in winter.
